3d Helmet Project
"In this project, you have been invited to design a concept Formula One race car helmet using Autodesk® Fusion360. The helmet must support the highest degree of safety and comfort to the user. The design aesthetic must convey speed and the style and culture of Formula One racing."
Our helmet is designed to provide safety to bike riders and also humor. Francesca came up with the sketches for the original design for the helmet and we had a lot of fun finding ways to make the helmet practical. We also conceptualized that the helmet could be customized to have the user's face and even be taken off and replaced. Mr. Tronconi seemed to really like it and thought it would be an interesting item to bring to market.

Francesca decided to take on the task of drawing the orthographic versions of the helmet. It wasn't hard finding useful references for the side of the helmet, but the front view and top view of the helmet proved difficult. The top view is a little distorted, with a much smaller face. However, she is overall pleased with these drawings of our helmet.

I worked on the 3D model for the helmet, which proved to be a difficult task, due to the software available. Another difficulty was the nature of rendering a human face to be realistic. I used the orthographic drawings and other photos of bike helmets to shape the model.
In the future, if we wanted to continue with the creation of this helmet, we would take a 3d image of a person's face and put it on a helmet, instead of reflecting from orthographic drawings. |
